"On November 26, Strateco announced that it received strong support for its Matoush uranium project at public hearings held in Mistissini and Chibougamau on November 23 and 25. Supporters include the Conference Regionale de Elus de la Baie-James (CREBJ) which represents the population of the 350,000km2 James Bay territory. Local tallymen and Cree families with trap lines in the vicinity of the project also voiced their support. The chief of the local Mistissini Cree community indicated that the local Cree community does not support the project; Strateco is working with the Cree community to secure its support. The public hearings were the final stage of a public review for the environmental impact study on the underground exploration stage of the Matoush project." |
