Growing Oil Spare Capacity Could Put Lid on Oil Price for Next Few Years

According to the IEA, declining oil sector investment in non-OPEC nations could trim non-OPEC supply capacity by 360 kbopd over the next 18 months. Comment - The IEA expects non-OPEC supply to slide to 50.3 mmbopd this year.

OPEC

Algerian Energy Minister Chakib Khelil indicated he is in favor of making a further cut in OPEC oil supplies at the cartel's next output policy meeting on May 28. Comment - Khelil believes OPEC would be taking a 'big risk' if they do not readjust supply.

U.S. Rig Count

Baker Hughes reported that the number of active rigs in operation declined by 30 last week to 975, which represents the lowest count since April 2003. Comment - Of the active rigs, 205 and 760 are exploring for oil and gas, respectively, with 10 deemed to be miscellaneous."
