TGR: So [Avalon's] one of the first one or two to get to production. Are there other ones that you are following that are in a similar situation?

VG: I think Rare Element Resources is certainly in a similar situation, too. I have a personal bias towards Avalon just because I have so much more of Avalon stock, but that's not to say by any means that Rare Element Resources is not in a situation where they can really progress. They've had a similar run in their stock from give or take 40 cents to $4 as well. They have a tighter share structure, but they also have a bit of a small project. However, it's not in the remote situation (i.e., it's not in the Northwest Territories), so that's kind of nice. But I think both these companies are going to be real winners in this situation. It'll be like having a Goldcorp and a Barrick. It's not necessarily one or the other. I think it'll be really both.

TER: What are some of the companies that you are particularly focusing in on now?

MF: I'm a long-term committed shareholder of. . .Rare Element Resources Ltd. with the Bear Lodge light rare earth deposit in Wyoming. It's had very good drill results recently and other drill results pending. Read full article.

    -   The Energy Report Interview with Mickey Fulp (01/21/10)

"Rare Element has acquired another rare‐earth-element property, one with indications of a high proportion of heavier rare earths. There has been a lot of buzz about rare-earth-elements due to their expanding use in various technologies, in particular green technologies. China, the dominant supplier, has signaled that it will further restrict exports in order to satisfy its rapidly growing domestic needs. The heavier of the rare-earths are generally the more valuable and the ones projected to face the greatest supply constraints.

RES is purchasing the Nuiklavik rare‐earth property in northern Labrador from Altius Minerals for 200,000 shares of its shares and a 2% gross overriding royalty. It has an option to buy back half of that royalty for C$2.5 million. Work conducted by Altius has outlined some high potential targets on the property. Assays from grab samples up to 1.4% zirconium oxide, 1.27% yttrium oxide, 1.15% niobium oxide, and 1.1% total rare‐earth oxides with heavy rare-earths making up 68% of the rare-earth metal component. . ."

"Rare Element Resources Ltd. (TSX.V:RES) has the Bear Lodge deposit in Wyoming. . .a fairly good grade light rare earths deposit.

Bear Lodge. . .is very interesting because the U.S. government is now investigating its own security of supply for the rare earths through the RESTART bill. The military in particular—which spends a good portion of its $600 billion annual budget on hardware—has awakened to the fact that some functionality of its critical hardware depends on rare earths inputs that now come only from China. Some consortium of defense contractors could end up taking over these projects and developing them as small-scale mines. They'd use government funded R&D to figure out process technology for getting these elements out of the mineral assemblages within which they are embedded, and .probably share that technology with the private sector so other deposits can be developed to ensure the commercial market also has a supply as well from other rare earth deposits outside of China." "Rare Element Resources Ltd. (TSX-V:RES) has a gold project with big potential that Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE:NEM) is spending money on to earn an interest, although most of the recent attention on this company has focused on its rare element project."
