Uranium One Mining Corp. (UUU:CSE; UUUFF:OTCPK; SL5:FSE) is awaiting a permit decision in Paraguay, the first Athabasca Basin survey results, and the closing of a property deal as long-term uranium prices sit at a record. Find out why one analyst says the company deserves a fresh look.

Key Investor Takeaways

  • Uranium One is awaiting a prospection permit decision in Paraguay, where it received its final environmental licenses in February 2026.
  • First results are pending from a Phase 1 geochemical survey at the Nucleon project in Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin.
  • A June agreement to acquire the Pasfield Lake and Foghorn properties still needs regulatory approval and would add about 27 million shares.
  • The company raised about CA$3 million in May, including about CA$1.54 million in flow-through funds for Canadian exploration, and sold its Redonda copper property for CA$1.1 million in cash.
  • The long-term uranium price has reached an all-time high, according to Sprott, as AI-driven electricity demand lifts interest in nuclear power.

A Paraguay Permit, Athabasca Results, and a Deal Still to Close

Uranium One Mining Corp. (UUU:CSE; UUUFF:OTCPK; SL5:FSE) is awaiting a prospection permit decision in Paraguay, first results from its Nucleon project in Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin, and the closing of a deal that would add two Canadian properties.

In February, the company received its final environmental licenses from Paraguay's environment ministry, MADES, bringing the total to four and covering all of its roughly 90,000-hectare Yuty Prometeo-San Jose uranium project. It applied at the same time to the Vice Ministry of Mining and Energy for a prospection permit, which it called "a critical step toward full-scale uranium exploration authorization across the project area." No decision has been announced. The company plans confirmatory drilling to verify historical exploration results.

"These approvals meaningfully de-risk the project and reflect continued regulatory progress in Paraguay," Chief Executive Officer David Greenway said.

At Nucleon, contractor Hardline Exploration Ltd. began a Phase 1 lake-sediment geochemical survey in April across seven claims covering about 23,425 hectares. The survey is meant to map geochemical anomalies and rank targets for follow-up. The company expected to finish it in the second quarter and has not yet released results.

Uranium One agreed in June to acquire the Pasfield Lake uranium property in Saskatchewan and the Foghorn property in British Columbia, subject to regulatory approvals, including that of the Canadian Securities Exchange. Streetwise Reports previously reported that exploration at both would begin once the transactions close. A May private placement included about CA$1.54 million from flow-through units, which must be spent on Canadian exploration.

New Ground, Fresh Cash, and an Exit From Copper

Under the June agreement, Uranium One would issue 27,060,000 common shares to acquire 1583644 B.C. Ltd., the private company through which it would get both properties. Pasfield Lake is a prospecting permit of about 4,400 hectares, roughly 60 kilometers northwest of the Cigar Lake mine. Historical work in the broader area identified surface uranium occurrences, while modern exploration has been relatively limited, the company said. Foghorn comprises about 40 Crown-granted mineral claims covering approximately 614 hectares.

"These strategic additions provide exposure to two prospective exploration districts and further strengthen our pipeline of high-potential uranium assets," Greenway said.

On May 27, the company closed a non-brokered private placement for gross proceeds of about CA$3 million, selling 4,911,333 non-flow-through units and 5,116,669 flow-through units at CA$0.30 each. On June 1, it announced the completed sale of its Redonda copper property in British Columbia to Copper One Resources Corp. (CEXY:CSE; CEXYF:OTC; IW8:FRA) for CA$1.1 million in cash.

In April, it closed its acquisition of Quark Uranium Ltd., adding eight claims totaling about 28,746 hectares in the Athabasca Basin. It also changed its name from Vanguard Mining Corp. and consolidated its shares on a 3.5-for-1 basis, effective April 27.

Uranium Ground Next to Bigger Names in Saskatchewan and Paraguay

Vancouver-based Uranium One explores for uranium in Canada and Paraguay and also holds the Pocitos 1 lithium brine project in Argentina. With Nucleon, Quark, and the pending Pasfield Lake property, it would hold about 56,600 hectares in or near the Athabasca Basin.

Nucleon's western claims sit in a regional structural corridor that hosts the Patterson Lake South deposit, now owned by Paladin Energy Ltd. (PDN:TSX; PDN:ASX), and NexGen Energy Ltd.'s (NXE:TSX; NXE:NYSE) Arrow deposit, according to the company. NexGen said on March 5 that the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission issued its license to prepare the site and construct the Rook I project. NexGen officially began construction in August, launching a four-year construction program. Paladin said in February that Saskatchewan's environment minister approved the environmental impact statement for Patterson Lake South. Uranium One cautions that mineralization on nearby properties is not necessarily indicative of mineralization on its own.

The Paraguay project is adjacent to Uranium Energy Corp.'s (UEC:NYSEAMERICAN) Yuty project, which the company said hosts an indicated resource of 8.96 million pounds of U3O8, citing a July 2022 technical report. Historical records reference 27 drill holes on the Prometeo concession, with downhole logging indicating uranium in seven. Paraguay and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding on civil nuclear cooperation on August 4. An energy specialist told ABC Color in July that domestic consumption could reach the limit of the country's hydroelectric output by 2030.

None of the company's uranium projects have mineral resources, and all are at an early stage. The company has about 40 million shares outstanding, and the pending acquisition would add about 27 million more.

AI's Appetite for Power Lifts Uranium Contract Prices to a Record

Data center electricity consumption is set to more than double to around 945 terawatt-hours by 2030, the International Energy Agency said in its Energy and AI report, calling artificial intelligence "the most important driver of this growth." Meta Platforms Inc. (META:NASDAQ) said in January that recent agreements would support up to 6.6 gigawatts of new and existing nuclear capacity by 2035, World Nuclear News reported.

Spot uranium ended September at US$89.63 per pound and the long-term price at US$96.50 per pound, according to Cameco Corp. (CCO:TSX; CCJ:NYSE), which averages month-end prices from UxC and TradeTech. Sprott's Jacob White wrote on September 24 that the long-term price had reached an all-time high.

"Rising electricity consumption, including from data centers and artificial intelligence, is increasing the value of reliable, around-the-clock nuclear generation," White wrote.

Analyst Says Permits and Chart Momentum Earn a Fresh Look

1In a February 25 report, John Newell of John Newell & Associates maintained a Speculative Buy rating on the company, then named Vanguard Mining Corp. He cited the expansion of its South American uranium footprint, the receipt of environmental permits in Paraguay, and a technical breakout in the shares.

"When a junior begins to align operational progress with technical momentum, it deserves a fresh look," Newell wrote. He called permitting progress "often the gating factor between a conceptual exploration story and a credible development pathway."
